Your horse's head is a vulnerable target during bug season. Face flies irritate the eyes and can trigger allergies or infections.
A Fly Mask:
Allows your horse to see out while face flies can't get in to irritate his eyes
Keeps gnats out of his ears (if the style includes ear coverings), always a plus.
Protects sun sensitive eyes and skin (such as pink skin under large white facial markings) from harmful rays. Some designs come with extended muzzle for extra protection.

Springtime To-Do List:
#4. Store winter blankets
You can clean your horse's winter blankets simply by wiping them down with a mild soap and water, then rinsing them off and hanging them up to dry. (A bit of elbow grease is needed here). Send exceptionally dirty blankets to a professional blanket cleaner. A heavyweight blanket is too bulky for most home laundry equipment, and you may find yourself banned from the laundromat if you try to wash your mud encrusted horse blankets there. Check the manufacturer's recommendations for care and cleaning before washing.
When they are clean, give them a once over with a waterproofing spray. Put them in plastic storage bags to keep them from getting damaged during the summer months.

Repair of torn blankets:
If your horse's blanket is torn through an inner lining or if the tear is very large, it is best to consult a professional seamstress. Especially with a waterproof blanket, you do not want any chance of moisture getting trapped in the blanket's inner lining. This can cause your horse to become ill from exposure. A professional should also be consulted regarding torn surcingles, buckles, tail and leg straps. The seamstress can assess the situation and determine if the blanket is repairable or if you need to purchase a new one Thank you for shopping at Rachels' |
